The New Kids On The Blog

Needless to say, we have officially joined the worldwide blogging society!! As newcomers, our blog and it's layout is a bit unorganized and possibly too long, but I have hope that it will get better with time. :) I decided to start a blog, like many of you, to keep in touch with family and friends near and far.

We have recently moved from Vancouver, Washington to the sunny southern Medford, Oregon. Nick's job transfered us down here and so far we are liking it! Can't complain about the weather...usually mid 80's. Nick leaves for work about 5:45am and gets home usually around 4pm. We live about 5 minutes from Nick's work, so he comes home for lunch everyday. Although a bit 1950's, we enjoy seeing him mid-day.

The church ward we are in down here is very small-but full of young families with many babies Owen's age. It's nice to move somewhere unfamiliar and know you will always be able to meet people through church.

Ok, ok. I guess I will get to the meat of the blog...OWEN!! He is soooooo stinkin' cute!!! His personality is so happy and explorative. Every where we go people can't help but comment on his smiling face and big bright eyes. He is going to be 9 months tomorrow! I can't believe how time has just flown by. He is crawling like crazy and pulling himself up onto EVERY thing and making good attempts to walk along the furniture. He knows how to crawl like normal, but has mastered the army crawl, as he is able to pull himself further and faster on the carpet.

And he LOVES food. Especially what Nick and I are eating. Although his first teeth haven't poked through yet, he can eat so much. Some of the things he really likes are avocados, pears, cheese, yogurt, bread, nilla wafers, lasagna, sweet potatoes, meat, etc. I won't bore you with others. ;) He has toys GALORE thanks to his Grandma Linda. He is the first grandchild for Nick's parents, so there was a lot of excitement when he joined the family!! Needless to say, my parents were just as thrilled with having their first grandson.

He loves Nick's dog (I mean "our dog") Maui. She tolerates him very well. You can tell by how she licks his face all the time. LuLu my cat (Not "our cat" because Nick doesn't like her, although he is the one who got her for me 3 christmases ago) on the other hand can't stand Owen. But can you blame her? If he gets close enough to her, he grabs her hair and pulls fist fulls of hair out until she hises and screams.

Last weekend we took a day trip to good ol' Crater Lake. It was so beautiful!! I took so many pictures!!! It was so nice to have the day to do what ever and not worry about what time we need to be home or who we will be hanging out with. Although we miss our families and friends dearly, it has been good for us to be here and grow as a family of our own. We have been taking daily walks with Owen and Maui and exploring the area. When we were at Crater Lake, we were given a pamphlet of information about the lake. I thought I would share a few that I thought were interesting:

* Mt. Mazama erupted ~7,700 years ago forming Crater Lake
* 1,943 feet deep and 4.5-6 miles wide
* 44 feet of snowfall annually

* Last time lake froze was 1949
* If you gathered up the ash from the eruption and spread it
evenly across the state of Oregon, it would form a layer 8 inches
thick!!! CRAZY!!

I will apologize for how long my first blog post has been. Between the move, cleaning our house to rent and having a baby on my hip, I haven't had time to send current updates to you all in many months. My posts in the future will not be so long!! We love and miss you all!!! XOXO

Wow! Owen sure has grown a lot since we were last in town 2 months ago. What a cutie he is. Can't wait to see you guys again. Glad the new area is suiting you well and you guys have the chance to get out and explore new things as a family. Crater Lake sure is beautiful, isn't it? Although I vaguely remember it all those years ago when we were last year. The tow truck seems to be more memorable for some reason. :) Happy that you've joined "blogger land" sis!! Love you guys.

I meant "last there" not "year." Just thought I'd clarify!

Oh, I am so glad you've started this. And don't ever complain about the length of posts. It's wonderful to hear everything. How nice to live so close to Crater Lake to make it a day trip! Check out Diamond Lake for the fireworks next 4th of July. It's really nice. So miss you all! Love the haircut, by the way.
