Hawaii- Take One

It feels like it has been so long since I last updated the blog!! So much has happened since the beginning of November-so let's begin! As a "Good Riddance" to Cancer, Nick and I took a much needed trip to Hawaii. We went for 8 days and had such a great time. As we were finishing up our packing the night before, Owen kept "unpacking" our suitcases. I think he felt that we were about to leave and didn't like it. When we put him to bed so we could finish packing, we both looked at each other and said, "Should we take him??" In the end, we flew to Hawaii by ourselves, leaving Owen with the Grandparents. :) Of course with any trip you take, there are a ton of pics that you would LIKE to show, but for times sake, I only added some of the highlights of the trip!

The La'ie Hawaii Temple- we weren't able to go in because they were renovating since it was built in the early 1900's. But we got lots of pics on the grounds.

Nick and I got really good at finding objects to put our camera on so we could set the timer to get pics of just us!! I love this picture. It was our first day on Oahu and it kinda represents the start of a new chapter for us...

At the Polynesian Cultural Center, they represent the 6 main islands of polynesia: Hawaii, Fiji, Tahiti, Tonga, Samoa, and Aotearoa (New Zealand). The girls above are from Hawaii doing a traditional Hawaiian dance. After learning about their culture for 30 minutes, they "taught" a dance to those interested... I was the only one.

This was our favorite culture to learn about- Fiji. This girl had such a great personality!! She was teaching us how to play music with these hollowed out bamboo shoots. There were all sorts of beats and rhythms, depending on what you were trying to express. Pretty cool!

This was the Fiji guy. He demonstrated the dances and songs of Fiji. It was soooo neat!!

Nick kept saying how they were his favorite of the day, so they asked if we wanted a picture with all of them!! Looks like he got the hand motions down!!

We both got ink "tatoos" after the fiji exhibit. Nick's meant "Warrior" which he thought was truly fitting after the year he had just had. :)

This was a Tiki from Aotearoa. I thought it was cool looking, so nick decided to copy his facial expression. I made him do it again so I could get this picture! Too funny.

Again at the PCC taking a moment to capture our day. There was a couple at this waterfall and they were taking turns taking pictures of each other, and I offered to take a picture of the two of them, and they took one of us.

At lunch time, all of the island representatives do a live canoe show, where they dance the traditional dances of their islands in a pagent for everyone to see. It was fun to watch. I wanted to put some of those pics in here, but there were too many, so I decided not to put any of them on. ;)

Behind us is "THE" place to snorkel- Hanauma Bay. You can kinda tell from this picture but the water is bright aqua blue and you can see right through it. It was beautiful, but I am finding it hard to find a place as crystal clear and more beautiful to snorkel in than on our honeymoon in Tahiti!! That is a place we will DEFINATELY go to again!!

We learned a lot about pineapples at the DOLE plantation. There are soooo many different species of pineapples, it's crazy!! They have a huge garden showing the many different ones. I also had no idea that a pineapple grew from the ground up. I always thought it was from a tree. Call me Naive. I don't care. Interesting tid-bit that you may not know is that it takes 18 months for a pineapple to be ready to pick!! That's so long!! That's why pineapple fields are every where on this island!!!!

The soft serve pineapple ice cream was to DIE FOR!! It was the most juicy and mouth watering dessert we had ever had. Sorry Scott and Angela- we got you beat on the best dessert!! This tops bread pudding at the Portland City Grill!!

What a great trip! I didn't know about the pineapple in growing from the ground until our last trip out there and that was just in 2005, Hah! Funny the things you learn. You both look so fresh and happy and relaxed. You two deserve it.

Love the pictures!!! I can't wait until we get to follow your example and head to the islands! As for the dessert comment...we'll have to try it for ourselves and get back to you. (I will say it looks sooo good though!)
