Hawaii- Take Two

I think it should be mandatory for any one who is vacationing on Oahu to have to visit Pearl Harbor. It would be a shame to go that far and not see the battleships, planes and submarines that fought for our country.

Before this boat took us out to the USS Arizona, we watched a 30 minute movie about WWII and what ships were involved, details involving WWII and how it affected the world at large. Nick and I both can't remember the actual figures, but I think they said about 2700 soldiers lost their lives at Pearl Harbor and 1177 of them died in the USS Arizona when it was shot down and eventually sunk. Their bodies still remain under this memorial.

This wall has the names of all of the soldiers that died serving on the Arizona. I loved what this saying said. So heroic.

The small wall on the left are those that survived the attacks and lived to see WWII end.

Nick pointed out to me that the Arizona is still leaking oil. The small brown dot to the left of the ship is an oil leak. You can actually see it float up from the water and surface. That just amazed me.

While we were here, the surf competitions were a few weeks in. We watched for a couple hours. It was pretty fun, but the waves were only 8-10 feet, so it was a little boring. Hale 'iwa was the name of the historic town which was hosting the competition. When we got back from our trip, we recorded the final competition, and the waves peaked at 50 feet! Crazy!! The bell hop at our hotel said that when they are that big, it sound like bombs are going off the whole day.

Here we are at Waimea Falls where the botanical gardens are. It was so beautiful, but I wish we could have seen the flowers in full bloom! Guess we will have to go back!! :)

Behind me is Diamond Head. It is a cool Hike to the top. This is also the placed where the classic film "South Pacific" was made. :)

Boy oh Boy did this guy miss us while we were gone!! And we sure missed him. We have been away for the weekend, but never 8 days! In the pic, he's wearing the shirt and ukelele we brought him home.

What a cutie pie!! I love this guy sooooo much!!
